Belfast Travel Guide

The modern and active city of Belfast is situated on the east coast of Ireland, is the second largest city in Ireland island also the capital city of Northern Ireland.

Belfast became a substantial settlement in the 17th century, but Belfast's growth begins 18th century when rapid expansion in linen, shipbuilding and heavy engineering made of Belfast a leading industrial centre until become Ireland's largest city, a position now held by Dublin.

The name comes from Béal Feirste, that means "the mouth of the river Feirste"; is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland and the second largest city on the island of Ireland. Belfast is surrounded by low hills. Belfast is also a major seaport, with commercial and industrial docks dominating the Belfast Lough shoreline, including the famous Harland and Wolff shipyard.

Also Belfast has a rich history, was bombed severely in World War II, from the late 1960's was mostly associated with a conflict between Catholics and Protestants for over thirty years, Belfast is famous due to the construction of the Titanic almost 100 years ago, the most famous ship in history that was built by Belfast's Harland and Wolff shipyards.
