According to Irish constitution, the first language from Ireland is the Irish known as Gaelic, and also official in the European Union but more and more people speak English, so both of them are the official languages in this country. In Ireland street and road signs are all bilingual and everyone speaks English, however in some places Irish is spoken daily.
You won't need any Irish language during your visit to Ireland. But, it's a cool thing to know a bit of Irish, because English and Irish are really different so you will not be able to understand a word of it; and it get worse with several distinct dialects of Irish which are spoken in some parts of Ireland.
