Kilkenny Travel Guide

Located in the southeast of Ireland, Kilkenny is Ireland's most historic and compact medieval city because of Norman castles and abbeys that you find there, besides gentle hills and fertile agricultural land.

The name Kilkenny is an Anglicization of the Gaelic "Cill Cheannaigh", which translated to English means the Church of Canice due to St. Canice who established a monastery in the area during the sixth century. However Kilkenny is not only medieval, modern kilkenny boasts a vibrant nightlife, and a rich array of arts and crafts. Also visitors have many choices for things to see and do. Most popular events of the year include Kilkenny Arts Week in August and the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in June.
